Ryan Chan

Case Manager

Ryan is a first year medical student at New York Medical College. Born in Singapore to parents from Myanmar (Burma), he spent part of his childhood in Singapore and Canada before immigrating to the United States when he was 8 years old. As an immigrant himself, he experienced firsthand the struggles of his parents adjusting to a whole new culture and environment, including navigating the immigration system. He was inspired to become involved in NYMC CHR by his and his family’s own experiences as immigrants in their pursuit for a better life in this country. As a case manager, he is excited to work with compassionate and skilled physicians along with human rights organizations in the community to provide medical evaluations for asylum seekers. In his free time, Ryan enjoys playing basketball, boxing, traveling, and staying active.
